For the first time in six years, I understand my daughter.I have always loved her, but from the time she was an infant something was very different about my precious pumpkin, and not always in a good way. She has always had VERY strong emotions. When she is happy she is HAPPY and when she is upset or disappointed, my goodness. It soon became apparent that she has a knack for language. With very minimal help from me she was reading at about a second grade level in two languages when she entered transitional kindergarten. Halfway through that year, I chose to take her out of school because she was being disruptive because she was so incredibly bored. The teacher tried to give her more to do, but as I know know from reading this book, she probably just made the situation worse.I borrowed this from my library at the recommendation of a friend who knows my daughter and have now bought three copies for my daughter’s teacher from last year, her teacher for this year, and my husband who is also an educator.At home this book has been a game changer. My daughter is still a fire cracker, but I now know how to talk to her to teach her how to both manage her anxieties and how better to interact with the world around her. She and everyone in our home is happier.I am so glad I found this book now instead of next year and wish I would have known about it a year ago. I just can’t recommend it enough for every teacher and for any parent who has a gift child in their life.
