As a psychologist, I'm dismayed to see that the gifted parent community and organizations claiming to support the emotional needs of the gifted clings to outdated ideas that did not stand up to scientific scrutiny (e.g. the myth of "overexcitabilities" and "oversensitivities" being part of giftedness). Shouldn't we hold ourselves to a higher standard for the sake of our gifted kids? There is very sound science out there that can help parents advocate for their kids and support their emotional needs. This book was carefully researched by leading academic gifted experts (not self-proclaimed experts!) It is important for gifted parents to be as critical of materials published about giftedness as they would about any other topic.
